When I say I love photographing families, I really do mean it! Every time I get the chance to hang out with a family to tell their story, I feel deeply honored that I am trusted with capturing these types of moments. As a child I was obsessed with my own family’s photography—I was that kid who would pull the family photo albums out and stare at them for hours, looking for clues about who my family members were from the photos. I always wondered how much can you tell about a person from a photograph? In my professional photography work, this is the question I seek to answer for everyone who steps in front of my camera lens. Who are you? And how can I show that?

I am especially fascinated by families and the relationships within. Families have a secret language, that is both verbal and nonverbal, and it is my goal at every session to reflect back the truth about who they are together so that they can see it too. Years from now, these images will tell a story of that time in their life, and they will be able to know a little more about themselves and their family dynamic from those years where the days are long but the years are short and fly by way too fast.

I’m excited to share these images on the blog today, because this family is just a dream to photograph. We met up at Kettle Cove on one of the chillier late August evenings, and although the breeze was a little brisk, they still managed to have fun and just be themselves.
