Gratitude. That is what I feel every time I walk into a home for a newborn session. Photographing newborns is such a privilege, and something that is just so darn amazing because I get to witness this new little soul exploring the world for the first time. I love capturing their expressive faces and seeing how they move their hands. Their little bodies tell the story of how they were in the womb, with bendy limbs still favoring certain positions. Everything about this little person is new, but also not new, as mama has known them for ninth months.

Meet Atticus, one of the most expressive newborns I’ve photographed lately. He arrived a couple of weeks early, no doubt because he was so excited to join his amazing family earth side. I’ve known Courtney and Austin for a while now though bowling and it’s been so cool to see their family grow over the years. Big sister Lily brought lots of energy to the session, but was excited to hold her little brother for some photos and was really sweet with him, giving him kisses. Atticus has definitely got second baby energy, calm and chill, as if he knows his older sister’s energy needs some balance. Mom and Dad were both smitten with their little guy, and gave him lots of love and snuggles throughout the session.
