Sonja | At Home Maternity Session | Maine Maternity Photographer | Stepheney Collins Photography

One thing I love about maternity sessions is how versatile they can be. Maternity sessions are not a one size fits all, because every mama-to-be who steps in front of my camera is in a different place in her life. My main goal when photographing these sessions is to work with her to create images that celebrate her in this moment. Some are first time moms, and they want to celebrate their body as they embark on their journey into motherhood. Some are welcoming a second child into the mix and want to take some time for themselves at their session. Some are welcoming a third baby and the moment they want celebrated is that of their whole family. Whatever it is she’s celebrating and commemorating with her maternity session, I am there to make it special and true to who she is at this time in her life.

I am excited to share these images from Sonja’s at home maternity session on the blog today. I love that Sonja wanted to have the session at her home, and that she wanted it to have a relaxed, cozy feel. The fresh blanket of snow outside the windows definitely helped us achieve that vibe. This is one of the sweetest, most down to earth families I’ve had the pleasure of photographing, and I feel so lucky to have gotten to capture these “before” moments for them. Before their sweet little boy arrived (I am blogging this after the birth of the sweet boy in Sonja’s belly), they were a family of four. Harper had yet to become a big sister, and Lars had yet to experience being a big brother two times over. I feel so lucky to have been able to capture their family of four dynamic—the smiles and the giggles, the kisses and the hugs before their newest little love made his appearance. Here are a few of my favorites!
